Infosys , Shanghai The Infosys software development block in the Chinese metro of Shanghai challenges the pervasive glass and steel avant-garde that Chinese cities showcase today. The organic structure embraces a sustainable model, thereby redefining the realm of innovative architecture in terms of environmental and aesthetic values. It is situated in the Huan Dong business park, which has strict height restrictions. In an attempt to achieve a pioneering architecture within these limits, the architect has endeavoured to break preconceived notions about living spaces, structure and built form. The form of the building is indicative of an organic mountain and is swathed with a lush green cover. It is an idea that inspires the congruence of environment and development. Externally, the building is akin to a blooming green hill, with a few fragments of curving glass peeking through its rounded surface. The 25 m high structure has 3 storeys with an area of 63,174 sq m. Its architecture replicates the undulating nature of a mountain even in its elevation. Its organic plans pivot around three open to sky atriums. The atriums are proposed to include highly dense vegetation, which will create a cooler interior environment. The extent of the floor plates decrease as they ascend up, to accommodate the form. The atrium and the large skylights around the periphery ensure a structure that is naturally lit in 75 % of its area, achieving an energy efficient building. Infosys S.D.B. Park-4, Mysore
Infosys S.D.B. Park-4,
Infosys, Mysore Jagged facades and lopsided fragments style the aesthetic of the software development block. It is situated on a tremendously contoured site in the existing Infosys campus in Mysore. The design inspiration came from the rugged profile of the landscape. The architect on his first visit to the site decided on instituting a concept that would echo the spirit of the site. The architecture also draws the tenets of origami, a Japanese art of folding paper. Originally, the building had an almost rectilinear form with a few jagged edges in the vertical plane. Later it progressed into its present form, which has the signs of distorted contours in all the three dimensions. These protruding jagged planes form abstract compositions with fractured geometry. The facade is in essence moving in and out in various angles and inclines giving rise to the distorted form. The base of the building moves along indistinct lines, which augments the distorted nature of the structure. The 5-storey structure houses 2,500 professionals. The typical open plan interior layout has rectilinear profiles whilst featuring skewed atrium pockets in several edges. The atrium creates an array of experiences by following the changing form of the outer skin. Its subtle skew becomes incredibly pronounced at certain levels when the outer skin moves in more zealously. The jagged profile of the building echoes the rugged contours of the site Details of construction. The photographs illustrate the construction process. Below : Preliminary Sketches.

Infosys Convention Center,
Infosys Convention Centre, Bangalore The Convention Centre, located in the Infosys’s Bangalore campus is a playful amalgamation of forms. It includes two building blocks separated by a whimsical clear glass cone, which serves as an entry and skylight for the lower ground. The domical structure includes exhibition areas in the ground floor and a 3,000-seater auditorium in the higher levels. The entrance atrium and the rear lobby which houses the food court manifests in a rectangular form with inclined roof and wall planes. The rectangular structure includes the banquet areas on the lower levels and a 2,500 capacity auditorium on the higher levels. The basement and the lower ground that runs through the length of the two blocks is dedicated to parking.A section of the lower ground features meeting rooms and a cafeteria that overlooks a circular landscaped courtyard. Aluminium and glass skin unifies the distinct form of the two blocks and defines the public spaces in-between. A single slanting roof element covers the entire length of the building. An inclined obelisk punctuates this roof in the entrance imparting a feel of dynamism to the form. This simple move effectively articulates the entrance zone with a dramatic gesture. The circular glass covered cut out in the centre and the striped openings in the roof add to the interest of the overall composition. The building is characterized by playful amalgamation of forms.

Infosys Campus,
Infosys, Chandigarh Set in an idyllic locale on the outskirts of Chandigarh, the building’s programme includes a software development centre, a food court and the employee care centre. The architecture with its dynamic geometry epitomises the company’s global position and the translucent manifestation of the built form reflects the company’s stand of transparency in their operations The two software development centres with their characteristic open plan have a massive linear disposition. Each of these blocks houses 3,000 professionals. The central atrium featured in these blocks rises up to 4-storey height and culminates with a massive skylight. It connects the two software blocks with bridges. The two smaller atriums house the entrance, lift lobby and staircases. The external manifestation of the software development block is evocative of a linear saucer. The structure inclines itself outwardly consequently becoming wider on the higher levels. The roof of the elliptical shaped structure curves itself like a saucer. Infosys also acknowledges that the greatest asset of a knowledge based organisation like theirs is human resource. Therefore, to nurture their intellectual capital, they are always consciously trying to offer their employees an invigorating work place. The employee care centre is a part of that endeavour. It is adjacent to the software development block and houses the food court on the higher level. The food court block that can host 1,600 people at any point in time follows the modernist vocabulary of the campus. The inverted saucer like roof of the food court has a bubble-like skylight. The external manifestation of the software development block is evocative of a linear saucer.
